What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a collaborative, future‑focused process that helps you create the life you want to live by combining clear goals with practical strategies and deep inner work.

It gives you time, space, and support to explore what truly matters to you and to move past the blocks that keep you stuck.

What life coaching involves:

  • Looking honestly at the areas of your life where you want change (work, relationships, confidence, wellbeing, or overall direction).

  • Getting specific about what you really want, rather than staying with a vague idea of a “better life” or “better version” of yourself.

  • Identifying the gap between where you are now and where you want to be, and mapping realistic steps to bridge it.

  • Having regular, focused conversations with someone who listens deeply, asks powerful questions, and holds you accountable in a kind but honest way.

In coaching sessions, you have a confidential, non‑judgemental space to talk openly about what’s going on in your world, what feels challenging, and what you long for but haven’t yet created.

Why we get stuck

Many people can picture the “end result” they want – the career, home, relationship, body, or lifestyle – but rarely pause to work out what it will actually take to get there in everyday, practical terms. Daily demands, responsibilities, and other people’s needs take over, and months or years pass with no real movement towards what would make life feel more fulfilling.

Common patterns include:

  • Feeling like life is happening to you rather than being something you actively shape.

  • Starting to make changes, but losing momentum as soon as life gets busy again.

  • Doing “all the right things” on paper, but still feeling blocked, stuck, or not good enough.

Coaching recognises that taking action is essential, but not enough on its own. To create lasting change, you also have to work with what’s happening internally.

Inner blocks and old programming

Alongside any practical barriers, there are often powerful internal barriers: old beliefs, fears, and patterns of thinking that quietly sabotage progress. These might show up as thoughts like “I’m not good enough”, “I always fail”, or “people like me don’t get to have that.”

A big part of coaching is raising your awareness of:

  • What you’re thinking about yourself, your abilities, and the world.

  • How those thoughts shape your feelings, decisions, and behaviour.

  • Which beliefs genuinely support you, and which ones are outdated or untrue.

Some thoughts can shift simply by examining them and seeing that they’re not accurate. But many of our automatic “go‑to” thoughts come from programming formed years ago – often in childhood – from the messages and experiences we absorbed. These early interpretations can become the unconscious rules we live by, long after they’ve stopped being helpful.

Changing this inner programming often means:

  • Noticing the old story you’re running.

  • Showing yourself, through action and experience, that these beliefs are not the whole truth.

  • Actively looking for the evidence that you are capable of creating the future you want.

As internal barriers start to clear, your energy, confidence, and sense of possibility naturally rise, and it becomes easier to attract and create more of what you’re looking for in your life.

How EFT supports the coaching process

In addition to coaching conversations and practical strategy, I use a technique called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

EFT is a gentle, mind‑body stress‑reduction tool that combines talking about an issue with tapping on specific acupuncture points on the body.

EFT can help you to:

  • Reduce the emotional charge around past experiences or long‑held fears.

  • Shift persistent, ingrained beliefs that don’t respond to “just thinking differently.”

  • Calm your nervous system so you feel safer to take new steps and make bolder choices.

Used alongside coaching, EFT can be a powerful way to address the internal blocks that keep you looping in the same patterns, so you can move forward with more freedom, clarity, and self‑trust. It can support you in finding the confidence to step up to the dream you’ve been nurturing and bring it into reality.
